Our Promise to Consumers:

Our Promise to Consumers from Sense Technologies, Inc. is to continue to develop and offer state-of-the-art, affordable, quality safety products that protect against injury and loss of life from back-over tragedies.  A record number of children’s lives are lost annually as a result of auto-related back-up incidents.  The numbers are staggering and the outcome is heartbreaking, especially knowing that in 7 out of 10 back-over incidents it was a parent, sibling or close family member behind thewheel.

Many of the incidents occur when a toddler, unbeknownst to the parents, is running to catch up with the family car.  The magnitude and depth of the grief that families suffer in these types of tragedies can never be quantified – and the loss can never be recovered.

Headlines such as the ones below have become commonplace:

Sense Technologies’ after-market safety technology is readily available and affordable, so every family has a means by which to avert these tragedies.  If you asked any family who has lost a child if they thought it could happen to them, not one will tell you they even considered the possibility.  The best, most safety-conscious parents lose children and these sad, heart-wrenching deaths are preventable.

SUVs, Pick-ups trucks, minivans, hatch-backs and station wagons all have enormous blind spots as a result of their high profile design.  Yet, it is precisely these vehicles that are most often purchased by families with small children.  On average, two children are being backed over every week.

Sense Technologies, Inc. has developed two technologies that complement each other resulting in solutions that give drivers a very clear view of what is not only directly behind their vehicles, but what is also down the streets and sidewalks, posing potential threats well before they enter the “impact zone.”

Guardian Alert®, a Doppler-radar based obstacle-detection system was recently included in a Department of Transportation study because of its superior performance, compared with other sensor-type technologies.  Tucked into either the bumper or in any trailer hitch receiver, this hidden Doppler radar technology detects objects all the way to the ground.  Using the concept of diminishing distance, a visual and audible alarm alerts drivers to any object in its path that is in danger of being backed over.  The visual and audible alarms increase in frequency and intensity as the car nears the danger.  The field that the radar patrols extends the entire width of the car and behind the vehicle 9 to 12 feet.  The blind zone directly behind any high profile vehicle is enormous, and only an advanced technology allows drivers and children to be adequately protected.  It has been demonstrated many times on television news that the typical SUV can hide up to 24 pre-schoolers behind the bumper, all beyond the view of a driver using standard rear-view mirrors.  A large vehicle like a Suburban can hide up to 51 children.

Parking aids using sonar or infrared technology, the ones that often have multiple visible sensors on the back bumper, are not created to protect human life and they leave a gap of protection from the ground up to approximately one foot, anywhere behind the vehicle.  Cameras also have drawbacks, as they have reduced functionality in low-light conditions, or when direct sunlight and poor road conditions cloud the lens.  They are also a “passive” system and only assist the driver when he or she looks at the monitor.  The strengths and weaknesses of different products often are not apparent from sales materials alone, and the newness of the technologies emerging on the market has left many salespeople uninformed as to the differences in the degree of safety provided.

The best safety systems contain layers. Even when the perfect rear obstacle-detection system is installed, there is still another area of safety to be considered – objects rapidly advancing into the impact zone, such as quick moving cars, running children or speeding bicyclists.  That’s why Sense Technologies created the Surround Safety System®, which includes Guardian Alert® and ScopeOut®, a system of aerodynamic mirrors that provide enhanced rear visibility.  ScopeOut® is a means by which drivers can see potential hazards approaching the rear of the vehicle, well before they enter the impact zone. Due to their convexity and strategic placement on a vehicle, a driver with ScopeOut® can avoid pets, pedestrians, bicyclists or traffic approaching behind the vehicle even when the rear view and rapidly advancing traffic is otherwise obscured from sight by walls, shrubbery or large vehicles.

Even the death of one child is too much, especially when each incident is preventable using technology readily available today.  Sense Technologies’ Surround Safety System® is the most advanced solution on the market and it will prevent these types of needless, heart-breaking tragedies.

Yours truly,
