The Guardian Alert™ Doppler Awareness System License Frame installs easily. The four-step procedure is simple and is not invasive for most vehicles.

Before installing the system, please check to see that the box contains:

1.) 1 License Plate Frame Sensor
2.) 1 Notification Display
3.) 1 Power Cable
4.) 1 Indicator Cable
5.) 5 Wire Ties

6.) 1 Warning Label
7.) 1 1x1 Velcro Stick Pad
8.) 1 Alcohol Wipe (not shown)

Installing The Guardian Alert™ System
The License Plate Frame wires can be installed through the interior of the vehicle (on the floor, ceiling or molding) or underneath the vehicle. The corresponding steps listed below may vary according to the location of the interior indicator and the desired installation of the wires.
Step 1
Attachment: Remove the license plate from your vehicle. Place the Guardian Alert™ over license plate and bolt both license plate and Guardian Alert™ to vehicle. Be sure not to tighten license plate bolts too tight or the wires of the unit will be crimped, crushed or cut. If there is not enough room for mounting the unit with the sensor at the top, mount the unit with the sensor at the bottom of the license plate. Bring the wires into or underneath the vehicle using an existing hole or entrance.
Step 2
Power Wiring: Locate the end of the power wire that contains two internal wires (one red positive and one black ground). Remove one of the rear light housings and find the reverse light power and ground wire. For the best connection, it is recommended that one (1) inch of insulation be removed and these two wires soldered to the vehicle reverse light wiring and properly re-insulated. (There is no need to determine the polarity to correctly connect the power cord). Tape the connection to ensure insulation and that nothing comes disconnected.
Step 3
Interior Indicator Placement: Place the interior indicator in an area of the vehicle that is visible to the driver and within his or her range of hearing. Conceal the interior indicator wire and lower it to the floorboard of the vehicle.
Step 4
Indicator Cable Placement: Locate the long gray indicator wire and attach it to the sensor wire. Now run it through or underneath the vehicle until it reaches the wire running from the interior indicator. Connect the male ends of the License Frame wire to the corresponding female ends of the interior indicator wire. Tape or shrink-wrap all connections to be sure that nothing comes disconnected. Conceal all wires and secure them to the vehicle in an appropriate place using the enclosed wire ties.

Troubleshooting
After making any changes to the installation or vehicle wiring, please return to step 1 and repeat the entire test to ensure that the unit is working correctly.

Testing Procedures
Please follow all of the testing procedures listed below to ensure that the unit is operating correctly.
Step 1

Set the parking brake. Turn the ignition switch on and place the vehicle in reverse. At this time, a green light will appear from the Interior Indicator to indicate the unit has been properly activated.

If the green light does not come on when the vehicle is placed in reverse, check the unit to ensure that it is completely and correctly installed. It is possible if the green light does not come on that there is not enough voltage to the unit. Check the battery with a voltage meter to ensure that there are at least 12 volts going to the system. Disengage reverse, start the engine and idle for 15 minutes to recharge the battery if required then repeat at step 1.

Step 2
Using a tape measure, mark off a distance of 18 feet straight out from behind the vehicle. Ask a person to stand there. The vehicle should remain stationary while the person begins to walk toward it from behind. When the person reaches a distance of 9 feet from the vehicle, the display should indicate a flashing yellow/green light. When the person reaches a distance of 5 feet from the vehicle, the display should turn to a flashing red /green light and emit a fast audible beep. When the person is within a distance of 3 feet of the vehicle, the display will show a solid red light and the beep should become continuous, warning the driver that an object is dangerously close to the vehicle.
Step 3
Now find a parking lot or similar open space where there are few or no pedestrians and vehicles. Have an assistant check the area for possible collisions and advise you or the operator when it is safe to reverse. Test the system reversing towards trash cans, curbs, lamp posts and walls.

Precautions and Limitations

For mounting on a centrally located license frame.

For mounting on a vertical license plate only.

Do not obstruct plate letters / numbers or tax tags.

Do not mount higher than 30 inches above ground level.

If lights or tail gate levers obstruct the sensor, mount frame upside down.
